8th July 2024 – From Black to White…

where a second can last an eternity

Mark Holmes from High Legh Community Observatory will bring us the story of Black and White Holes, possibly one of the greatest of mysteries in our Universe.

By profession and training, Mark is an Industrial Chemist who, though now working part-time, still works as a Technical Consultant in the area of Pulp & Paper manufacturing and development. However, his first and true passion (from the age of 5 or 6), has always been Astronomy.

Mark says “As a founding member of the High Legh Community Observatory (HLCO), I hope to reach into the wider community to encourage and support the introduction of ‘all matters Astronomical’ to as many people as possible. For me, the greatest mystery of them all is any attempt to understand and grapple with the very nature of reality itself, which by their very existence, Black Holes can tear asunder…and then, if that’s not enough, there might be White Holes!

Mark was awarded the Sir Patrick Moore prize by the British Astronomical Association for his work on both HLCO (highlegh-communityobservatory.co.uk) and a sister project on the Isles of Scilly, COSMOS (Community Observatory St Martins on Scilly).
