2nd November 2009 – Gravity Waves: Ripples in the Fabric of Space-Time

Dr Ed Daw of Sheffield University will return to take us into the realm of Gravity Waves.

If a large star explodes it can create an effect like throwing a pebble in a pond. The pond in this case is space-time itself. Can we rupture space-time and can we detect these ripples which are forecast by Einstein’s General Relativity? It does sound a bit tricky but a lot of work is going on and I’m sure Ed will tell us about the theory and the major efforts currently under way to detect gravity waves in space-time.
